Multicultural realisations

I've been an absolute web statistics addict the last 6 months or so. Referrers are something I find paticularly interesting. The last 2 days I've had the largest traffic spike since I started using google analytics, an increase of 3200% from normal. While that's great, its not the most interesting part to me.

Most of that traffic has come from what looks to be a spanish language digg clone. A fair bit of my normal traffic comes from a chinese site that hosts a chinese translation of the CSS layout tutorial. I've just had an email asking me if its ok to translate the same tutorial into Catalan.

I think most internet users take the multi-cultural nature of the web for granted. I think english language sites are probably worse for this than anyone. They very rarely link to sites of other languages, as too many english speakers are not bilingual. People stay in their own comfortable circles and ignore other languages and cultures.

So many thanks to the readers of meneame.net and jorux.com for opening my eyes a little.
